Aiper Pilot X1 Review: The Ideal Cordless Pool Vacuum for Small Pools

Tech

In recent years, compact swimming pools have surged in popularity. Easy to install, often without any special permits, they offer a true oasis of freshness in even modest gardens. Pools under 10 m², including above-ground or semi-buried models, have won over urban and peri-urban households, but they also raise a practical question for owners: how can they be maintained effectively?

Les plus
  • Very easy to handle (with a 2.5 m telescopic wand included)
  • L’aspiration efficace et l’autonomie
  • Filter cleaning in a minute flat
  • The “shallow water” mode
Les moins
  • L’aspiration se limite au fond

The hand-cleaning vacuums, often designed for larger pools, aren’t always suitable for these compact volumes. Too bulky, too powerful, or simply cumbersome in a tight space (which is usually filled with steps), they reach their limits here. That’s where handheld vacuums, lighter, easier to use, and perfectly adequate for this task, come into play. Among them, the new Aiper Pilot X1 aims to become the go-to companion for small basins.

Unboxing and First Impressions

From the moment you open the box, the Aiper Pilot X1 exudes confidence. The design clearly echoes that of a cordless stick vacuum, promising a simple and familiar experience. The perceived quality is solid, with sturdy plastics and clean finishes.

The device ships with a 2.5 m telescopic wand, a real asset for compact pools often capped at depths of 1.20 or 1.50 m. The body of the cleaner requires no special assembly; simply click the wand into the dedicated connector, and the unit remains surprisingly balanced once assembled.

Inside the main compartment, you’ll find a 360 µm mesh filter basket, accompanied by two ultrafine cotton filters (100 µm), to be fitted like a sock over the basket. This double filtration system captures both typical debris (leaves, insects, sand) and finer impurities that are often difficult to trap.

A Simple and Enjoyable Use (And Quite Satisfying)

First big plus: getting started is immediate. Just immerse the device, press the power button, and the vacuum starts. No cables, no hoses: complete freedom. By default, the “floor” mode activates at startup after holding the power button for a few seconds.

On a pool under 10 m², the Pilot X1 proves highly effective. It aspirates (at about 80 L/min) leaves, dust, insects, and small grains of sand without difficulty.

In some areas, especially where dirt is well-attached to the bottom, you may need to reposition the head slightly or make several passes. Nothing unusual for this type of product.

The wand delivers good maneuverability, and the unit’s modest weight (just over 3 kg) makes it easy to handle without fatigue. The underwater balance is decent, though the head could use a touch more ballast to stay firmly pressed to the bottom.

Mode “Shallow Zones” and Filter Cleaning

Good news: the Pilot X1 includes a dedicated mode for cleaning steps, provided there is about 20 cm of water. Practical for mini pools with a small staircase or shallow area. In this case, suction remains effective, and the small head easily reaches angles and spots where debris tends to accumulate.

This is a notable advantage, especially for flat-bottom pools with built-in stairs, which are often prone to sand and fine dust deposits. To activate this dedicated mode, press the power button briefly while the vacuum is already running; when the indicator glows green, the mode is active. A simple press returns to the standard suction mode.

Beyond suction itself, cleaning the filter is arguably one of the most satisfying aspects of the device. After a session, simply open the lid, drain the water, remove the filtering basket and the ultrafine sock, then rinse everything with clear water. In just a few moments, the device is ready to go again.

This simplicity is a real plus compared with certain competing cleaners where disassembly is tedious. Here, no tools or fragile pieces to handle.

Autonomy and Recharge: The Right Balance

Aiper claims 45 minutes of runtime, a figure our tests broadly confirm. For a small pool, that is more than enough for a complete double cleaning of the bottom and steps.

Toward the end of the cycle, you can indeed notice a slight drop in power, but it doesn’t prevent finishing the job.

Recharge complete in 2h30 via a supplied cable, which is very practical, ensuring a safe connection without moisture risk. A LED indicator shows the charging status, a detail always welcome.

Some Drawbacks, Though

Not everything is perfect, though. The Aiper Pilot X1 is limited to floor cleaning and offers neither a brush nor a specific attachment for walls or the waterline. For small pools, this is acceptable, but having a brush included from the start would have been a real plus, especially to dislodge tougher deposits.

Another point: replacement filters are not yet available for sale on the official Aiper site. We hope they become available soon, because ultrafine filters, although washable, will inevitably have a limited lifespan with regular use. Certainly, you can always use a sock or other workaround, but we hope official accessories become available quickly, especially since the debris trap (also interchangeable) is not available either.

After a few weeks of use, the verdict is simple: the Aiper Pilot X1 perfectly fulfills its role. It offers a simple, autonomous, and highly effective solution for maintaining small pools where traditional robots don’t fit well enough.

We appreciate its well-thought-out ergonomics, minimalist maintenance, and sufficient autonomy for a thorough cleaning without stress. Admittedly, a few accessories are missing to make it a more versatile product, but for a pool under 10 m², the efficiency/comfort ratio is simply excellent.

Aiper Pilot X1, Clubic’s Verdict

Conclusion
Note générale
8 / 10

The Aiper Pilot X1 isn’t meant to replace a high-end robot, but it ticks all the boxes for owners of small above-ground or in-ground pools seeking a simple and quick solution. Well designed, pleasant to use, and easy to maintain, it stands as a smart and relevant tool in a market where compactness is a real selling point.

And while a few details could be refined (brush, available accessories…), Aiper delivers a solid practical success, making it an ideal companion especially for pools under 10 m², and a very good supplementary solution for standard-sized pools.
