Summer is just around the corner and, honestly, although I prefer heat to cold, it looks like what’s coming will have you spending more hours shielded from the sun with air conditioning than outdoors, at least during the peak hours such as after lunch. How about a plan of a movie, air conditioning, and an ice coffee or ice cream? Let’s put the blanket aside because I don’t think you’ll be in the mood for it… Well, here I’m going to tell you how to have the best cinema available for a very low price, 4.99 euros a month (taxes included). It’s thanks to Movistar Plus and its cinema and series subscription.

It is the platform’s new offering, boasting a wide catalog of fiction both original and domestic and international, with a new film release every day. You won’t run out of options to enjoy the best series, but you’ll also have access to the latest cinema releases, such as the latest Oscar Best Picture winner, “A Battle After Another,” which premieres on Movistar Plus this Friday, June 19.

‘A Battle After Another’

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and winner of six Oscars in 2026 (including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay), “A Battle After Another” is a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland.” The story follows Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a former revolutionary from an ultra-left radical group called “The 75 French,” who years ago fought against the repression of immigrants at the United States–Mexico border.

After the betrayal of his former partner and lover Perfidia, who collaborated with the supremacist officer Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn) in exchange for avoiding prison, Bob has lived sixteen years in hiding under a false identity with his daughter Charlene, now called Willa.

Turned into a paranoid stoner who survives off the grid in the sanctuary city of Baktan Cross, California, Bob has kept his teenage daughter in the dark about his revolutionary past. When Lockjaw reappears after sixteen years and Willa disappears, Bob is forced to reunite his old band of ex-revolutionaries to rescue her.

The film works as a political thriller and family drama set in a dystopian America where immigration repression has reached a breaking point. Anderson builds a narrative about the long-term consequences of extremism, the ideological inheritance across generations, and how the violence of the past returns years later when it seemed forgotten.

With a cast that includes Sean Penn (Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor), Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall and Chase Infiniti, the movie blends action, suspense and redemption while exploring moral dilemmas without easy answers.

‘F1: The Movie’

For those of us who were born in the 80s (and I assume for many more), Leonardo DiCaprio is one of our favorite actors. But Brad Pitt is, too, another performer you’ll be able to see as a new release this month on Movistar Plus. On the 12th, “F1: The Movie” premiered, one of the actor’s latest works that also earned four Oscar nominations last year, winning Best Sound.

Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was a promising Formula 1 legend in the 1990s until a brutal accident sidelined him and turned him into a gambling addict living in a motorhome, competing in secondary races. Thirty years later, his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now owner of the Apex Grand Prix team on the brink of bankruptcy, persuades him to return to the premier category as mentor and second driver alongside the rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a vain yet talented young driver who disrespects the veteran and belittles him for his age.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Lewis Hamilton, this Apple Original Films and Warner Bros blockbuster, now available on Movistar Plus, blends high-octane action with a drama about redemption, teamwork and confronting the past as Sonny seeks one last chance for glory on the asphalt.
