Whataburger’s Hot Honey Pimento Chicken Sandwich Delivers Perfection

Remember when chicken sandwiches were the hottest topic around? Even though the hype may have cooled for the moment, brands like Whataburger keep pushing fresh ideas in hopes of birthing the next viral bite. And nothing signals viral quite like hot honey…

My go-to Whataburger order has long been a Patty Melt, yet I found myself drawn to the limited-time Hot Honey Crisp Whatachick’n Sandwich that takes pride of place at the top of the menu… especially since it seemed to feature a pimento cheese spread!? Folks, we could use more pimento cheese in fast food.

Whataburger Hot Honey Crisp Whatachick’n® Sandwich Review

New Chicken Sandwich!

Pros: Hallelujah, at last I’ve sampled Whataburger’s chicken sandwich take. If they decide to keep this item on the menu, I may never return to their burger lineup. (This is a stance I also hold about Shake Shack’s outstanding chicken sandwich.)

We all know how restaurant food rarely looks as pristine as it does in the advertisement. While I won’t pretend the potato bun looked as flawless as the image here, it’s still pretty close to the mark. The hot honey drips across the entire chicken fillet, and the red pepper cheddar cheese spread oozes out the sides with every bite.

On the hot honey front, even though this isn’t marketed as a branded collaboration, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn it uses the Smucker’s version I sampled early last year. It isn’t merely hot for heat’s sake; there’s real flavor in every bite of this excellent sandwich. (And a nod to Whataburger for keeping the pickles off by default—it’s a choice that really helps the overall balance.)

Cons: While the spread is clearly a pimento cheese, the official label reads a “creamy red pepper cheddar cheese spread,” which is a mouthful. Fortunately, it’s such a delicious mouthful that I’m willing to overlook the longer name.

10/10

This wasn’t the sole new Whataburger item that impressed me. Not revealing too much, but there will be a similarly glowing take on their new Peaches & Cream Shake in the near future.
