This week Crumbl leans into the back-to-school vibe with a lineup that nods to post-class snacking memories, ranging from cookies and cream to Pop-Tarts. They’re tapping into flavors that once made those after-school moments feel special. Among their offerings, one treat channels the popular strawberry-milk trend, but Crumbl isn’t choosing the usual chocolate route. Rather, they teamed up with Pirouline—the creators of the famed sip-through wafer tubes—to craft a strawberry-milk inspired cookie.
Is This Strawberry Flavor Really Strawberry?
Advantages — I won’t beat around the bush, friends. It’s tough to find bright spots to highlight about this particular cookie. Yet, to give a fair take, I’ll note that Crumbl’s mousse-topped cookies generally bring a lightness that makes a dense cookie feel more approachable. And, naturally, the Pirouline Rolled Wafer was tasty… even if it didn’t play a major role in the cookie as a whole.
Drawbacks — This cookie was baffling in perhaps the most frustrating way possible. The premise here is that the cookie should somehow convey strawberry milk. I’m hesitant to say it should taste like the strawberry fruit itself, since strawberry milk isn’t simply a strawberry flavor on its own. Even so, it hardly tasted like strawberry milk. None of the flavored components (the strawberry streusel cookie and the strawberry-milk mousse) carried any discernible flavor beyond butter, vanilla, or dairy.
I kept looping back to bites that looked pink and promising, only to feel more confused. After getting a second opinion, we even wondered if the strawberry flavor had been completely omitted from the cookie. Yet that couldn’t be the case, since the base cookie contained tiny flecks of strawberry.
Additionally, the strawberry streusel portion was so overwhelmingly sweet and dull that it dragged the entire cookie down. If that supposed strawberry flavor had truly come through, perhaps it could have redeemed the bite. But in the end, we walked away disappointed. Our hopes of kicking off the week with a dose of nostalgic sweetness were dashed in a single bite.
