Grab-and-go snacks seem to be grabbing more of our attention than ever. And really, who could fault us for that? For my part, I enjoy snacking in the car, during a stroll, or even at a job interview—those moments when a kitchen and tools are out of reach. Desserts, however, have long skipped the on-the-go scene, until a rare handheld frozen treat crossed my path, and I simply had to try it.
Typically, handheld ice cream treats target kids, so I’m asking for an adult-friendly, portable option. Doughlicious, hailing from London, fits the bill as a utensil-free, finger-friendly frozen dessert. It features small spheres of flavored gelato wrapped in cookie dough and rolled in bits of cookie crumbs. Curious? Think of it as mochi for people who aren’t fans of mochi.
As of August 26, 2026, Doughlicious had landed in Costco stores nationwide and had become a regular sight at Whole Foods and Target. I sampled several flavors, and below are the ones that stood out.
Chocolate Truffle
Chocolate-on-chocolate isn’t usually my first pick, but Doughlicious pulls it off in a way that makes me want to dive in. Even though the treats are non-dairy, the chocolate yields a gelato-dough bite that’s incredibly velvety and rich, reminiscent of those classic truffle confections layered with luscious chocolate. I might have enjoyed a slightly vanilla-dominated outer dough in the mix, but for true chocolate fans, these are irresistible. In this flavor, the dough’s chewy character stood out more prominently than in the others, and the interplay of crunchy, melty, and chewy textures was striking.
Mint Chocolate Chip
Mint Chocolate Chip Doughlicious, featuring non-dairy gelato, turned out to be my favorite (I admit I’m a mint-ice-cream devotee). The mint notes stay gentle, while the chocolate flecks are small enough not to feel like tooth-destroying shards. If you leave them at room temperature for about seven minutes, the flecks soften slightly and the gelato blends nicely with the outside cookie bits. The mint flavor remains refined, allowing the chocolate to shine, and the result gains a touch of creaminess from the gelato rather than tasting like toothpaste.
Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Chip Doughlicious feels like the quintessential version, though I can’t say for sure if it was the original. It offers a little of everything: a generous vanilla-forward flavor, a healthy dose of chocolate for interest, and Doughlicious’s signature blend of crunchy and creamy textures. I sampled both non-dairy and dairy iterations of Chocolate Chip; they weren’t vastly different, but I did prefer the slightly richer mouthfeel of the dairy gelato.
