The Galaxy Book 6 Edge represents Samsung’s latest 16-inch ultraportable, featherweight and slim, stepping in to replace the first model that caused a stir at the upper end of the market back in 2024. The big question this year is how much the formula the Korean giant introduced two years ago has improved by moving to the Snapdragon X2 Elite. Here is a long-form look at how Samsung’s approach holds up in 2026.

Announced in the spring and released in France just before summer, the Galaxy Book 6 Edge takes the mantle from the Book 4 Edge that went on sale in 2024. Contrary to what its “Edge” name might imply, this is the first in a line that arrived at the same moment as the Copilot+ / ARM systems powered by first-generation Snapdragon X Elite chips. It required Qualcomm’s second generation of chips before Samsung felt confident launching a new high-end, large-format ultraportable that is both thin and light. After the Book 5 Edge was scrapped, this is the device we assess this summer. It preserves the strengths of its predecessor while aiming to address a few drawbacks, notably on graphics performance. We will find out whether it succeeds.

Two configurations are offered in France. The model we tested (32 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD) is priced at €2,999; the other, more affordable option, comes with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD for €2,299. Both keep the same display and the same processor. In large part, this hefty price tag reflects surging memory and storage costs in recent months. Design: A Large Unchanged Model, Still as Beautiful

There is no denying it: the Galaxy Book 6 Edge is one of the most elegant large-format ultraportables you can buy. It looks more stately and refined than an ASUS ZenBook A16 and slimmer than a 15-inch MacBook Air M5. Samsung sticks with the same chassis as the Book 4 Edge, which is a good thing. With measurements of 355.4 x 250.4 x 12.3 mm and a weight of 1.55 kg, the device keeps a favorable diagonal-to-bulk ratio that deserves a nod.

Samsung has managed a rare feat: a large, slim, lightweight chassis in an all-aluminium shell that exudes confidence in its build quality. The frame resists twisting just as well as the lid, a strong indicator of overall robustness. In short, the Book 6 Edge looks and feels premium, and that’s a major selling point.

In the same vein, the brand delivers a design that’s distinctly original without chasing the look of a MacBook. Unlike its bigger sibling, the Galaxy Book 6 Ultra, which leans noticeably toward the style of recent MacBook Pros, the Book 6 Edge remains true to its own aesthetic. A strong point in its favor as a premium portable.

Compared with its direct predecessor, this model keeps the same ports and layout, with only modest changes in space allocation and a curvature cut on the edges that remains tasteful. The result is a practical, attractive device that prioritizes a slim profile while not sacrificing rigidity or sturdiness.

On the exterior, the chassis design is as crisp and refined as ever. The finish and assembly feel flawless, reflecting the device’s premium status. In use, it’s hard not to appreciate how Samsung maintained the balance between a large screen experience and a compact, elegant chassis.

The screen remains the same size and form factor as the prior model in this family, ensuring the same comfortable footprint for a 16-inch panel. The hinge provides a stable, comfortable open angle, and the overall construction inspires confidence when handled on the go.

Display: Still a Little Short on One Key Point

Samsung taps its own subsidiary, Samsung Display, for the Book 6 Edge, equipping the machine with one of the best portable PC screens on the market today. The 16-inch Dynamic OLED, with a 2.8K resolution of 2880 x 1800 and a dynamic 120 Hz refresh rate, aims to deliver top-tier image quality. Samsung also promises full coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

Using our DisplayCAL setup, we can confirm the image quality is excellent—except for one area: brightness. In standard SDR, the panel peaks at around 403 cd/m², which is good, but not always enough to counter the glare that comes with such a bright, glossy touchscreen in well-lit environments. On the upside, the OLED technology provides infinite, perfect blacks and superb contrast, ideal for cinematic content or color-critical work. The image can show blooming in some white-on-black scenarios, but the overall contrast is outstanding.

Color accuracy is excellent, with a DCI-P3 phenomenal coverage of about 118% (well beyond Samsung’s own claims) and a wide gamut for the sRGB color space around 167%. Calibration is solid, with a measured DeltaE of 2.2 in our tests (an ideal target is 3 or below). Color temperature hovers around 7149K by default, which is a touch cool for general video work; ideally it would sit closer to the 6500K standard.

In practice, the display is a standout feature, with great color fidelity and an immersive look. It’s a panel that screen enthusiasts and casual creators alike will appreciate, especially for photo edits or light video work. To work at a professional level, users will want to adjust Samsung’s own Settings to get the most appropriate color balance.

Performance: A Snapdragon X2 Elite in Frenzy

As announced, the Book 6 Edge moves to Qualcomm’s latest ARM processors: a Snapdragon X2 Elite (X2E-88-100), the same chip we saw powering the ASUS ProArt PZ14 tablet. On paper, this chip should deliver performance that far surpasses the Book 4 Edge and its first-generation Snapdragon X Elite, offering the kind of headroom needed for modern workloads.

The exact question is how this translates in real-world usage. The Snapdragon X2 Elite is powerful and versatile, with a strong emphasis on graphics performance and on-device AI capabilities, including a Hexagon NPU delivering significant AI processing.

Cooling and acoustics are a key part of the equation. The Book 6 Edge uses an active cooling system with two fans and a vapor chamber to keep the X2 Elite in check. The design prioritizes quiet operation, even when the system is under heavy load. In practice, the fans run at low speeds even in performance mode, with noise levels typically under 40-42 dB at a distance of about 40 cm from the screen. In a typical office or open-plan environment, the cooling noise is barely perceptible, which makes the Book 6 Edge feel composed and restrained when running demanding applications.

CPU performance, as seen in synthetic benchmarks, is solid. In Cinebench R23 / R24-style tests (whatever the exact version used for this piece), the X2 Elite shows clear gains over the first-generation X Elite. The score comparison with the previous Book 4 Edge shows a noticeable leap in both single-core and multi-core performance: roughly 17% in single-core and around 35% in multi-core, all while maintaining the same chassis footprint and thermal design.

Compared with Apple’s latest offerings, the Book 6 Edge still lags behind in single-core performance and, in terms of multi-core performance, shows competitive gains. Against the top-end Intel Panther Lake parts (Core Ultra X7 358H and X9 388H), the Book 6 Edge remains behind on both axes. In short, it is solidly competitive but not at the top of the laptop hierarchy when measured by raw CPU speed alone.

GPU and gaming performance are more nuanced. The Book 6 Edge’s on-board graphics, the Adreno X2-90, are capable in many everyday tasks and casual games, but more demanding titles show the limitations of a mobile-SoC design when pushed to the max. The machine can handle titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider at reasonable frame rates, especially with lower resolutions or simplified settings, but ray tracing remains challenging.

In GPU-heavy applications and creative tasks, the Intel Arc GPU in some competing configurations still outperforms the Adreno solution here, especially in gaming scenarios or GPU-accelerated workloads. Still, the Card’s overall performance is enough to support credible multimedia editing and occasional gaming, which is a step up from the previous edge models.

The cooling tends to keep the system reasonably quiet and the temperature under control despite the high power draw of the X2 Elite. The preparation and throttle behavior mean that sustained workloads may push temperatures above the 50-degree mark in some regions of the chassis, particularly near the keyboard and hinge, but the fan noise remains subdued.

Battery Life: Up to 22 Hours on Paper, But in Practice?

Samsung touts a maximum 22 hours of battery life on paper, powered by a 61.8 Wh battery. In our real-world testing, using a balanced mix of office work, web browsing, light multimedia playback, and brightness tuned for efficiency, the Book 6 Edge delivered around 10 hours of life on battery. This is a credible result for a device of this size and performance envelope, though clearly short of Samsung’s idealized 22-hour figure. For heavy usage like video editing or long gaming sessions, expect noticeably shorter runtimes.

The device ships in the box without a charger; you’ll need to supply one yourself. Samsung recommends a 65 W charger for optimal charging speed.

The Sound and Webcam

Samsung focused a bit more on the speakers this time around. There are four speakers in total (two 2W tweeters and two 5W woofers) that sit under the chassis. They deliver honest audio quality with a usable bass presence, and a surprisingly loud output for a laptop of this size. The sonic profile remains well-balanced, with reasonable depth for music and video, though not a standout in the genre. The front-facing 2 MP webcam delivers 1080p video, and is adequate for video calls. Biometric login is provided by a fingerprint sensor in the power button, since Windows Hello facial recognition is not supported (the camera itself lacks infrared sensors).

Disassembly shows a relatively standard upgrade path for a premium product. The battery is accessible, but the memory and storage are soldered to the motherboard, meaning there is no real upgradability later. Just like the MacBook’s approach, you pick your configuration at purchase and it cannot be expanded afterward.

Display and Color Calibration

The Dynamic OLED display is the standout feature for most users. In SDR, brightness peaks at around 403 nits, which is bright but not outstanding in very bright rooms. The panel’s true strength lies in contrast, with perfect blacks and profound depth. The color coverage is excellent, with the DCI-P3 color space at 118% and the sRGB gamut at about 167%. The calibration is strong, though the default color temperature sits a bit warm for some content and a touch cool at others; Samsung could tune this a touch more toward the 6500 K standard for video professionals.

The color and contrast performance make it an ideal display for creators who need precise color and wide gamut support, and the high-quality OLED panel is a major asset for the Book 6 Edge. Outside of the brightness caveat, the panel is superb.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The keyboard and trackpad have the same strengths and weaknesses as two years ago. The keyboard uses the full width of the chassis and includes a practical numeric keypad. It is, however, quite loud in use. The typing feel is crisp but with shallow key travel and a noticeable bounce, giving the sense of typing on top of the keys rather than pushing them down. After a short acclimation period, most users will find the keyboard acceptable, but a quieter experience would be welcomed.

The trackpad benefits from a very large diagonal and is comfortable, but not especially precise. The lack of haptic feedback is noticeable compared with most premium 2026 laptops; Samsung could have done better here.

Ports and Connectivity

On the sides, you’ll find HDMI 2.1, a USB-A 3.2 port, two USB4 Type-C ports, a 3.5 mm headset jack and a microSD reader, all embedded in slightly thicker enclosures that still preserve a striking curved cut aesthetic. For most tasks, this port selection is more than enough, even if the inclusion of a MicroSD slot on such a premium machine is somewhat of a curiosity.

Other hardware features include a webcam, built-in speakers, a high-quality keyboard, a backlit keyboard with an all-around well-crafted build, and an in-key fingerprint reader. The device’s physical dimensions and weight make it very comfortable for long sessions, particularly with its bright, vibrant OLED display.

The Battery And SSD – Soldered, Not Upgradable

The internal layout is a typical premium approach: the battery is accessible, but the memory and storage are soldered to the motherboard. This means there is no user upgrade path after purchase, matching the “MacBook-style” level of upgradability. The SSD is eUFS, which remains a limitation in terms of maximum speed compared to top-tier PCIe Gen 4 drives, though the introduced LPDDR5X memory and the X2 Elite GPU acceleration help in actual workloads.

On the performance test front, the Snapdragon X2 Elite shows clear improvements in CPU performance versus the previous generation, while the GPU remains capable but not elite for 3D gaming. The overall result is that the Book 6 Edge is excellent for productivity, creative tasks at a moderate level, and casual gaming, but it isn’t the best choice for the most demanding triage of titles in 4K or with ray tracing.

Display Calibration And Color Management

When the screen is calibrated, the Book 6 Edge shows a color accuracy that’s more than good enough for enthusiasts and prosumers. The brightness limitation is the main caveat in bright environments, but the OLED contrast and color fidelity remain standout features that make the display a key selling point of the device.

On the whole, the Book 6 Edge remains one of the finest 16-inch ultraportables available, with a chassis that exudes quality and a display that’s superb for color-critical work. Its main shortcoming remains the brightness limit and the lack of a higher-end GPU solution inside the enclosure, which places it behind the most powerful current laptops in gaming and certain professional workloads.

Disassembly and Upgradability: No Real Path Forward

From a practical standpoint, taking this Galaxy Book apart does not reveal any special ease of upgrade. The battery is accessible, but the RAM and storage are fused to the motherboard. Like Apple’s MacBook line, you pick the configuration at purchase and that’s it. The Book 6 Edge is designed to stay unique to its initial specs.

Screen: An OLED Marvel With a Brightness Caveat

The Dynamic OLED screen is one of Samsung’s strongest offerings in a laptop, and its image quality is excellent for media consumption and color-critical tasks. The brightness limitation is a notable caveat for bright environments. The color accuracy validates the device for creators, though it would be improved with a more accurate default color temperature.

Performance: The Snapdragon X2 Elite Delivers

In terms of raw performance, the X2 Elite demonstrates clear progress compared with the first-generation X Elite. The device’s ability to run demanding games at reasonable settings makes it a credible option for gaming on the go, though it isn’t a pure gaming laptop. For professional workloads and creation tasks, the X2 Elite handles most tasks well, especially with AI acceleration available.

Battery Life: Real-World Realities

In video playback and light usage tests, the Book 6 Edge delivered around 13 hours or so of playback time, which is a solid result for a device with this display and hardware. In office workloads, you can expect around 10 hours of real-world battery life, a practical figure that sits within the expected range for devices of this class.

Weight, Dimensions, And Handling

With a body measuring 355.4 x 250.4 x 12.3 mm and a mass of 1.55 kg, the Book 6 Edge remains comfortable to carry for a day’s work. Its all-aluminium chassis not only looks premium but also offers excellent torsional rigidity, which is reassuring for users who need to travel with their device.

Conclusion: Samsung Keeps the Faith, But at a Price

With the Galaxy Book 6 Edge, Samsung sticks to what made the earlier book family a success and simply upgrades the core SoC. The result is a balanced, premium 16-inch ultraportable that combines a superb OLED display and excellent build quality with an upgraded processor and improved graphical performance. The main caveats include a brightness ceiling that can make use in very bright rooms challenging and a configuration where memory and storage are not upgradable after purchase, which makes the price feel even steeper.

The Book 6 Edge is a strong choice for those who want an outstanding display and a premium chassis in a large-format Windows laptop, and who are willing to pay a premium for high-end performance. It is not the best option for those who need the most CPU power or GPU performance for intense gaming or heavy professional workloads. It remains, however, a very capable and reliable premium ultraportable that you can count on for everyday heavy workloads, creative tasks, and occasional gaming.
