We Tested Euria: Infomaniak’s AI That Heats Homes and Bets on Privacy

At the end of last year, Infomaniak launched Euria, an AI assistant hosted exclusively in its Swiss data centres. The Geneva-based company, renowned for its web hosting, its email service, and its kDrive storage, is betting on privacy and an architecture based on open-source models. A March update strengthened project management, introducing a knowledge base and more advanced file processing.

Euria adds to Infomaniak’s already rich catalog of services. Besides hosting, Infomaniak offers its Mail, kDrive, kMeet, kSuite, or SwissTransfer. With this assistant, Infomaniak extends its philosophy of a collaborative suite to generative AI. The tool is accessible from a browser at euria.infomaniak.com, or via a mobile app available on Android and iOS.

Euria also heats housing in Geneva

Euria runs on Infomaniak’s D4 data centre in Plan-les-Ouates, on the outskirts of Geneva. This infrastructure runs entirely on renewable energy, with a distinctive feature: instead of dissipating the heat generated by the servers, as most data centres do, Infomaniak captures it and re-injects it into the city’s district heating network, managed by the Geneva Industrial Services.

By 2028, the company aims to have enough capacity to heat 6,000 Minergie-A homes in winter, and to supply enough hot water for a five-minute shower to 20,000 people each day. The company also claims that such recycling would avoid around 3,600 tonnes of CO2 annually and would prevent wasting any water in the process. For its founder, Boris Siegenthaler, the idea is simple: the same energy benefits the community twice—first to run the AI, then to heat the homes connected to the network.

Qwen, Mistral, Whisper: the mechanics behind Euria

Like most recent AI assistants, Euria does not rely on a language model developed in-house by Infomaniak. The company assembles several models distributed with open weights. A model weight is the numerical values file obtained after training, the one that converts a question into an answer. Published as open access, this file can be taken up by any company and run on its own servers, never passing through the original developer’s servers.

In the interface, a selector lets you choose among several response profiles. Fast relies on Qwen 3.5 Light, a lean version designed for common questions. Expert, checked by default during our test, uses Qwen 3.5 in its full version for analyzing more complex problems. A third profile, Apertus 1.5, appears separately with the note “Swiss model in development,” a way for Infomaniak to offer a European alternative without yet presenting it as equivalent to the first two options. The same selector also gives access to a Deep Reflection mode, which prompts Euria to reason step by step before answering.

Note that the model’s origin, whether Chinese or Swiss, does not affect privacy as long as the inference, i.e., the calculation of the response, occurs exclusively on Infomaniak’s servers. That is the case here, since the models run in the company’s data centres in Switzerland, without recourse to a third-party public cloud.

What about privacy?

Infomaniak builds its entire narrative around privacy for Euria. As summed up by Marc Oehler, Infomaniak’s CEO, the promise is meant to be “a reality, not marketing hype”. Data never leaves the company’s Swiss data centres and is used only to process the user’s request. The assistant is presented as GDPR-compliant and compliant with the Swiss data protection law, the LPD. No conversation is used to train the models.

The hoster is not alone in adopting such an approach. Proton defends a comparable pledge with Lumo, also based in Geneva and subject to the same GDPR, without reuse of conversations for training. In addition to an incognito mode, Lumo protects conversations saved by a connected user through zero-access encryption, which Proton says it cannot unlock itself. Euria offers a similar ephemeral mode to avoid storing anything at all. Infomaniak keeps its entire infrastructure in Switzerland, including Euria. By contrast, Proton moved Lumo’s servers to Germany in response to a Swiss telecommunications surveillance bill that proposed preserving connection data and, in some cases, access to encryption keys.

Regarding the protection of conversations stored by default, beyond the ephemeral mode, Infomaniak does not disclose technical details. However, looking at what the company does on the kDrive side, files are encrypted at rest with AES-128, but with keys generated by Infomaniak itself, not under a zero-knowledge model like Proton Drive. We can therefore only assume that this infrastructure has been extended to Euria.

Our hands-on with Euria

The classic prompt

We begin our hands-on with a classic prompt by asking the same question used with Proton Lumo: what is the difference between end-to-end encryption and zero-access encryption, with a concrete example for each.

The response is fast and well structured, but not as concise as we might expect. It also includes what looks like an hallucination. As a storage service offering zero-access encryption, Euria cites Proton Drive or kDrive with the enhanced privacy option activated. The problem is that this option does not exist, neither for the public nor for enterprises. Did the Euria agent simply reveal a forthcoming feature? Either way, it appears to be an hallucination.

Developed by the Chinese tech giant Alibaba, the Qwen models initially appeared constrained, featuring elements of censorship from the local government. When Infomaniak unveiled Euria at the end of last year, it was clear they hadn’t fully cleaned up. Today, progress has been made on this front.

Notably, Infomaniak offers an AI Services plan with API access. And this bundle does include image-generation LLMs (Photomaker V2 and Flux schnell). However, these are not integrated into Euria.

Audio processing

To upload an audio file, you must first be signed into your Infomaniak account. Our interview file .ma4, recorded with an iPhone’s voice recorder, weighs 11 MB and loads without issue via the chatbot interface. In “thinking” mode, the result was quite impressive.

The transcription is not only very fast but also well organized, cleaned, and it highlights the key points of the interview. The result is comparable to a transcription obtained by Gemini 3.1 Pro.

Audio processing is handled by OpenAI Whisper V3. Infomaniak notes that it was trained on over a million hours of data and reduces transcription errors by about 20% relative to Whisper V2, with better handling of accents and background noise.

Project management

The Infomaniak chatbot also performs particularly well for project management. This section enables gathering various documents, digesting them, and then, for example, planning a trip, running an event, or organizing a move.

Image processing

Currently, Euria cannot generate a visual or modify a photo. So don’t count on it for minor image edits. However, Euria does offer OCR capabilities and can therefore analyze the content of an image and summarize it, as illustrated below with a screenshot of kSuite’s pricing grid

Web research and news

Let’s move on to the freshness of results. The idea here is to see if Euria can fetch recent information rather than replying from its internal knowledge. We asked the chatbot for the top 10 technology headlines of the week. And the verdict is that the answer is rather off the mark. Nothing about the Apple event. Nothing about Mistral AI’s valuation. Moreover, Euria does not cite any sources.

In the same vein, this is not the tool you would use for continuous, real-time news monitoring; the scope remains more limited to chat-based text processing.

Infomaniak’s approach is thus quite different from autonomous IA subscriptions. Lumo Plus, Proton’s offering, costs €12.99 per month, or €9.99 with a one-year commitment, for the chatbot alone. ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, and Perplexity Pro sit around €20–€23 per month. Mistral’s Chat Pro is €17.99 per month. Euria, by contrast, is never sold as a standalone AI product.

But it is also possible that you hold a kSuite subscription (Standard, Business, or Enterprise) – and not just my kSuite. For these, Infomaniak provides two pages. One presents, without detail, the features related to Euria (as shown above). The other simply does not mention it. For our part, a standard kSuite provides access to 10 projects.

Euria: a first draft with several gaps

The Infomaniak AI cannot generate or modify a visual. And beyond the absence of encryption, this is likely the one area where it differentiates most from Lumo for daily use, and probably what keeps the cost accessible.

That said, Infomaniak plays on two tracks. Euria does not currently offer a dedicated public API. To integrate a model into a third-party tool or to automate requests, you must go through AI Services, Infomaniak’s separate offering. This includes an OpenAI-compatible interface, billed per usage in Swiss francs: per million tokens for language models, per minute for Whisper, and per image model. Euria, by contrast, remains limited to the chat interface and text only. In the end, it’s a bit disappointing not to have a seamless bridge between the two.

Euria does not yet offer customizable agents, as with Proton’s Custom Lumos or Mistral’s agents; that feature is still on Infomaniak’s roadmap. The Euria projects allow adding personalized instructions and a knowledge base, but this customization remains project-specific.

Moving to my kSuite+ lifts the limits on projects and conversations, but not all technical constraints. Each conversation is still capped at 254,000 tokens for now, Infomaniak notes, with one token roughly equal to a word or part of a word. That translates to roughly 150,000 to 200,000 words exchanged within a single conversation, a hard ceiling that applies regardless of the chosen subscription.

Who is Euria for?

Naturally, Euria is aimed first at those who already use Infomaniak’s services—hosting, kDrive, and email—and who want to centralize their usage without changing provider. The idea aligns with concepts like Gemini from Google, Lumo from Proton, or Copilot from Microsoft.

Because Euria is primarily text-focused, its use remains fairly basic and, based on our tests, largely centered on project work. The ephemeral mode and the Swiss hosting will likely appeal more to doctors, lawyers, and government agencies. For more advanced confidentiality needs, Proton Lumo with its zero-knowledge encryption is still the better option.

Euria’s capabilities at this stage are still limited, but the ecological angle and the local processing in Switzerland remain valid selling points. Even without autonomous agents yet, there are expectations for the ability to generate visuals and greater relevance for news searches. When that day arrives, Infomaniak will be a bit more competitive. And one can imagine the company would not stop at a mere touch on the subject but would announce a proper pricing framework, likely with higher—and hopefully clearer—rates as well.
