People have their own little secrets when shopping at Costco. For me, the trick is to skip a cart and weave through the chaos; the downside is grabbing fewer items, but since I’m shopping for one, that’s hardly a big deal.
This week I saw an AskReddit thread asking what items make Costco worth it. There were a number of answers ranging from cleaning supplies, travel packages, and, of course, the reason we’re here―food. We always gotta talk about food.
Organic Chicken Base from Better Than Bouillon
Buying the larger jar at Costco cuts the price by about half compared with what you’d pay at a regular grocery store. It’s wild, considering you get a jar 2.5x bigger, so it’ll last quite a while. If nothing else, you can start handing out spoonfuls to guests until it’s used up.
Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken
Not me first—somebody else brought it up! It might feel a bit like cheating, but it’s a valid point worth noting. Costco’s rotisserie chicken is priced below the cost to produce it. Skipping one would feel like leaving money on the table every time you walk in the store.
Kirkland Signature Organic Pure Maple Syrup
This one is a personal favorite. You’ll always find Kirkland maple syrup chilling in my fridge. Real maple syrup makes life better, and I’m done pretending otherwise. Treat yourself to a generous jug of maple syrup from Costco for just $14.99!
Kirkland Signature Grass-Fed Butter
Whether you view it as an exact Kerrygold stand-in or not, it’s still a fantastic deal on butter. The beauty of buying butter in bulk is that you can freeze a ton of it and not notice a thing when you defrost it. Then again, you might not even get there. Butter shows up in almost everything, so you could simply grab a fresh pack on each Costco visit.
Kirkland Signature Liquor
There’s hardly anything I wouldn’t trust if it carries the Kirkland Signature label. Especially the liquor. This stuff is high quality, it will do the job, and it’s available in large quantities. In other words, you can snag a sizable bottle without spending a lot. Most bottles of liquor at Costco cost at most the price of two drinks at a bar.
Kirkland Signature Extra Fancy Mixed Nuts
We’re really going nuts for nuts at Costco! There’s an entire aisle devoted to them. It’s a dream come true for any nut aficionado. Wander through the nut aisle and follow your cravings. You genuinely can’t go wrong here, with cashews, pecans, almonds, and even extra fancy mixed nuts!
