Consider this a personal note of reassurance. The reflections I’m about to share are mine alone, untouched by anyone else. Just me, a bag of Pringles Mingles, and the quiet of my apartment. It might sound as if I’m trying to paint a sensuous visual scene for you, but truthfully I’m wishing for someone here to rescue me.
Pringles Mingles: Sweet and Salty
Advantages: The Mingles genuinely strike a sweet-and-salty balance. What exactly crafts these traits? It appears to be a blend of corn meal, sugar, brown sugar, and salt. Clever move on that one, Pringles. While Pringles Mingles: Sweet and Salty deliver on their stated promise, we should break down exactly what that promise entails.
Drawbacks: These snacks feel like they were conjured by the devil. That may be a tad dramatic, but let’s really dig into these chips. Are they chips? Mingles? Whatever they are. Pringles has shown far more creativity with their other Mingles flavors. There’s cinnamon and sugar, jalapeño and queso, cheddar and sour cream, even dill pickle and ranch. With all those real flavors in the lineup, the newest concept being simply “sweet and salty” seems underwhelming.
I can only imagine the flavor scientists in lab coats chose sweet and salty in order to make them irresistibly addictive. And yes, they achieve that goal. Unfortunately, there isn’t a distinct taste that elevates the crave-inducing experience my body endures. I simply can’t stop eating these Mingles, yet I don’t gain satisfaction beyond a basic, primal level.
This feels like the nadir of culinary invention. We crave a sense of wonder, a touch of whimsy, even a purpose that the food we consume can fulfill. These were engineered in a lab merely to push more bags of Pringles Mingles, and I cannot in good conscience recommend purchasing them. Spare yourself the trouble, and if you happen to be my neighbor, please don’t pull these out of the compost bin in the back.
