Tasting the New Gingerbread OREO Cakesters (Early Release)

People, Halloween hasn’t shown up yet, but OREO is already unveiling festive flavors as if we wouldn’t notice. I’m wandering the grocery aisles in search of mystery candies and spooky sodas when I stumble onto a full display boasting Hot Cocoa Chips Ahoy, Fudge Covered Ritz, and a brand-new Gingerbread edition of the recently refreshed OREO Cakesters. This chaos has to end. I’d back any candidate who enshrines October’s Halloween monopoly into law.

OREO Gingerbread Cakesters Review

Fresh OREO Cakesters are here!

Pros: The gingerbread character in the cake-and-cookie layers reads as genuinely gingerbread-forward, though the ultra-soft texture doesn’t perfectly mimic the crunch you’d expect from a gingerbread snap. I’m leaning toward the idea that the creme filling might have been tweaked to resemble the icing you’d find in a gingerbread house kit, though I can’t confirm or deny that hunch. Since this flavor translates the essence of gingerbread so well, you’ll enjoy it to the same degree you relish classic gingerbread cookies.

Cons: Gingerbread lands solidly mid-pack on my holiday flavor scale: notably above peppermint, yet not reaching the peaks of apple cider or mint-dark chocolate. Could Gingerbread land in a tie with Pumpkin Spice for my top spot…?

How many flavors of OREO Cakesters are there now?

Today’s lineup of OREO Cakesters includes the classic chocolate cake with vanilla creme, golden cake with vanilla creme, chocolate cake with chocolate creme, and the confetti golden cake with vanilla creme. The new limited Gingerbread edition pushes the total to five varieties of this beloved treat… a snack cake? a cake sandwich? a tiny, bite-sized whoopie pie? Whatever you want to call it, there are five in all. And I’m officially bidding farewell to my personal favorite, the chocolate cake with peanut butter creme, which seems to have quietly disappeared around the recipe refresh earlier this year.
