This Week’s Trader Joe’s Haul: A Full Look at Our Cart

During this in-between stretch after Halloween and before Thanksgiving prep fully kicks in, deciding what to reach for can be tricky. Yet, we tend to revert to the fundamentals. This brief lull between pumpkin-spice and caramel-apple flavors becomes a chance to grab something comforting that also tastes terrific, offering a welcome break from the seasonal rush.

Trader Joe’s remains a legendary hub for autumnal offerings, yet it also maintains a robust lineup of flavors that stay accessible all year round. So, on a recent wander through the aisles in search of simple, enduring tastes, we found more than enough options. From everything we picked up, here are five items worth noting, along with our takes on each.

Buffalo Ranch Popcorn

With a brief pause from pumpkin-spice before the Thanksgiving rush and the December lineup, we’re still catching plenty of football. The season is in full swing, and so are the snacks that show up at the gatherings. Buffalo sauce is a quintessential favorite in this milieu, and since popcorn is hard to beat for TV snacking, this pairing felt like a no-brainer. And it delivered. The bites carry a pronounced heat kick, while the creamy ranch notes come through as the dominant, savory core. We only grabbed them a couple of days ago, yet the bag is already empty from repeated snacking.

Soft Strawberry Licorice Twists

With Halloween candy used up but the sweet tooth still present, we turned to this strawberry licorice. The flavor hits a nice note reminiscent of the strawberry gummy component found in the iconic sour strips. One caveat: the texture comes off a touch chewy-hard—perhaps we just unearthed an older bag, as they weren’t as supple as expected. If they were perhaps a touch thinner, the stiffer texture wouldn’t be as noticeable. Regardless, the strawberry flavor remains superb, and we devoured the entire bag with pleasure.

Grated Seasoned Parmesan Cheese

This item may have debuted in October, but we only had the chance to try it this week. It’s not remarkable beyond being a well-seasoned version of grated Parmesan. It brings noticeable flavor, yet it doesn’t seem to alter dishes dramatically unless you’re relying on a lean ingredient list—think garlic bread where the cheese and butter do most of the heavy lifting. The nuance we expected from the seasoning tends to dissolve into the overall profile rather than stand out on its own.

Agua de Kefir Passion Fruit Blackberry

What I appreciate most about these beverages—aside from their gentle fizz and balanced sweet-tart character—is that they rely entirely on real fruit juice for flavor. In a world where artificial flavoring is all too common, the use of genuine blackberry juice and real passionfruit juice is refreshing. The blackberry note reminded me of Blackberry Izze, but this drink carries a subtler, deeper complexity that stays pleasantly sweet without becoming cloying. When sipped with the tartness of passion fruit, the overall taste is wonderfully harmonious and easy to savor in one go.

Balsamic Rosemary Beef Steak Tips

I went into these hoping for a fall-winter flavor highlight that could serve as a convenient route to richer tastes. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t win me over. The overall flavor comes across quite sweet—surprisingly so—and it needed a solid amount of salt to balance it. The balsamic marinade, while expected to tenderize, seems to have tipped the texture too far, producing a mushy bite that’s not ideal for steak. I had hoped for a sharp, lasting bite, but the result leaned toward an overly softened finish.
