Could Moe’s Copy of Our Taco Bell Favorite Outperform the Original?

Earlier this year, Moe’s Southwest Grill introduced a fresh menu option: Grilled Burrito Dippers. These miniature, protein-packed burritos are perfectly sized for dunking into a sauce, which is how they earned their name. Moe’s graciously provided a gift card so I could personally sample the Grilled Burrito Dippers; in this piece, we’ll explore whether this compact dipping burrito could establish itself as a new standard in American‑Mexican fusion.

What’s the difference between this and the version from Taco Bell?

Taco Bell’s Cheesy Burrito Dippers were filled with their three-cheese blend, rice, and your choice of beef or chicken before being grilled; dipping sauces included Creamy Garlic, Creamy Chipotle, or Nacho Cheese. Moe’s Grilled Burrito Dippers are filled with a protein (your choice of steak, white meat chicken, Adobo chicken, ground beef, tofu, or a limited-time-only brisket) plus Oaxaca cheese and queso before being grilled; dipping sauces include Chipotle Ranch, Poblano Crema, Chili Lime, or Moe’s Sauce.

Moe’s Southwest Grill Grilled Burrito Dipper (Steak) Review

New Moe’s Southwest Grill Item!

As with every Moe’s entrée, this item is highly customizable—six proteins and four dipping sauces are available as of this writing. While I’d relish trying every protein-and-sauce pairing in Grilled Burrito Dipper form (seriously, I would), it isn’t practical when considering calories. For the purposes of this review, I chose what I’d order normally without the obligation to write about it later: Steak with Chipotle Ranch.

Pros: The portion of steak in this compact burrito was surprisingly generous. It makes sense given the filling is essentially protein and cheese. Though it isn’t intended as a full meal, I could see myself ordering two for a light lunch—or four for a substantial dinner. I’m already tempted to circle back to sample more protein options; that brisket in particular is calling my name…

Cons: Asking for less meat and cheese goes against my preferences, but I wouldn’t have minded a touch of rice to break up the density of the fillings.
