Dunkin’s Spider Donut Review: A Pleasant Surprise

You’ve got to appreciate Dunkin’—not just for their infamous bromance with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, but also for their eagerness to dive headfirst into every new season. Dunkin’ goes all in—neatly playful, vividly colorful, and dusted with sugar. And this year’s Halloween lineup didn’t disappoint.

We’ve already sampled their Terro-Misu Latte. For me, though, I’m drawn to treats—especially donuts—that are sculpted to resemble something else, even if that something else happens to be a spider (yes, I admit I’m a scaredy-cat). Does this particular pastry measure up to the rest of the 2026 spooky lineup? Here’s the verdict.

The Dunkin’ Spider Donut

Pros: When you notice the donut’s tiny, beady eyes, it’s hard not to weigh its looks as either a pro or a con. I’m not thrilled by the idea of consuming or even near a spider, but the Halloween vibe and the charming presentation push this dessert into the plus column. The glaze shines with a bluish-violet hue that stays away from berry or grape flavors—perfect for Halloween and not a pastel sunset. The spider’s composition is straightforward: a yeasted donut, vanilla glaze, eight chocolate “legs,” and a chocolate donut hole forming the head.

The overall flavor, texture, and simple construction hit the mark. There was a time when Dunkin’ dessert offerings leaned too sugary for my taste (I’m a yeasted-donut person at heart, though I’ll accept a cake donut in a pinch). This yeasted donut strikes a balanced note and isn’t cloying. The icing isn’t overly sweet either, despite those eight chocolate limbs. It’s possible that the yeasted dough recipe or the glaze’s confectioners’ sugar amount shifted slightly, but this donut achieves a much-needed equilibrium.

Cons: I attempted to find a flaw. The main drawback—though likely fixable with practice—is that this donut isn’t easy to dip. If you’re like me and enjoy dunking into a strong cup of coffee to counterbalance all that sweetness, you might miss that feature. Still, the cuteness of the spider makes this a forgivable shortcoming.

FINAL VERDICT

Score:

10/10

It’s simple, charming, and yes, I’ve devoured several of these—and I still worry the leftovers will rise up and scuttle away—perhaps right onto my face. (Do you remember those jumping spiders from earlier?) Yet for what it is, the Spider Donut nails it. It’s an effortless home run for Dunkin’—delightful for kids and not ridiculously sweet for grown-ups. It’s likely to fly off shelves well before Halloween.
