Exploring Shake Shack’s Complete Truffle Menu with Item-by-Item Rankings

News has circulated that Shake Shack has revived its beloved truffle-focused menu across locations nationwide. The chain regards this lineup as among its most triumphant limited-time offerings to date, making the comeback not overly surprising to us. With autumn approaching and a craving for warmer, earthier flavors, anticipation grew for the menu’s possible reappearance.

Black Truffle ‘Shroom

While it’s commendable that the menu includes a vegetarian option that isn’t a tired stereotype, this fried mushroom creation feels like an odd choice for a veggie burger. The piece showcases a mushroom stuffed with a Munster-and-cheddar cheese blend, battered and fried before serving as a patty substitute on a Shake Shack burger, yet the result misses the mark.

The center is flooded with gooey, mild cheese, to the point of diminishing appeal. The truffle sauce can’t rescue it. We looked forward to the flavor pairing of the mushroom, creamy white cheeses, and truffle, but it never delivered a compelling or interesting taste that would invite another bite.

Black Truffle Shack Stack

Even with the same oversized fried mushroom element, this sandwich fared better because it included a real beef patty. Taking a bite into a burger that delivers mostly bland cheese yields a flavor that drifts away from a true beef patty. We’re not insisting on mimicking beef flavor, but a griddled mushroom could better echo a burger’s character. In this case, the sandwich lands as a reasonable middle ground between the two burger concepts here, though the truffle note could have been stronger.

Black Truffle Burger

The sauce shines, yet there isn’t a generous enough amount to deliver a pronounced truffle kick. Coupled with a relatively mild fontina, the burger comes off a touch bland. We’d consider ordering it again if we could add a bit more sauce to amplify the flavor. It simply needs a little extra push to reach greatness.

Black Truffle Parmesan Fries

Given Shake Shack’s usually under-seasoned crinkle-cut fries, the Parmesan topping was a welcome addition. Other than the sauce, which is served on the side, there isn’t much black truffle flavor on the fries themselves. Yet the sauce carries a strong, delicious truffle profile, and pairing it with Parmesan yields a tasty bite. Just be sure to eat them promptly, because these fries lose their appeal once they cool down.

Mac & Cheese Bites

These aren’t an elevated mac-and-cheese experience; they lean into nostalgia with noodles that can be a touch overcooked and a cheese sauce that recalls classic comfort. The bites are lightly battered and fried to a crisp finish, then suitably salted. We’d gladly order them again and suggest taking advantage of this opportunity while the Black Truffle Menu is available, especially to dip these mac-and-cheese morsels into Shake Shack’s black truffle sauce for extra flavor.
