Five Hidden Gem Snacks at Trader Joe’s

Snacks really form a staple of everyday eating. When you’re craving a bite without a full meal, snacks come to the rescue. Yet it’s easy to fall back on the familiar chips, nuts, yogurt, and the like—reliable and tasty, to be sure. But they can start to feel monotonous. So, if you’re in the mood to refresh your snacking routine, we prowled the Trader Joe’s aisles to uncover some excellent bites you might have overlooked as you hunted for your snack fix.

Savory Rice Crackers

Crackers make for a solid nibble, no doubt. You may lean toward familiar picks like Ritz or Triscuits (and there’s nothing wrong with that). But when you crave something with a twist, consider Trader Joe’s Multiseed Rice Crackers with Tamari Soy Sauce. They deliver a savory little spark in every bite. Plus, they’re gluten-free. I’ve tried a few gluten-free crackers that reveal their lack of gluten in texture; these aren’t one of those. They snap crisply and show seeds that, along with the soy, create a salty, extra-crunchy mouthful.

Marinated Artichokes

Among my finds, this one stood out as peculiarly adventurous in the snacks category. The label even states you can eat them straight from the jar without any extra prep, which isn’t how I’d typically approach artichokes. Still, if Trader Joe’s claims they’re snack-worthy, I’m willing to give them a try. They aren’t terrible, but I’d probably reach for a pickle over them. They feel more at home in a salad mix-in, though they could entice someone seeking a healthier, more interesting snack. They’re a touch more engaging than munching on a carrot.

Sour Cream and Onion Rings

These may resemble your standard onion-ring chips, akin to Funyuns, but they differ in notable ways. They’re Trader Joe’s brand, constructed from lentils and rice, and they’re gluten-free. That makes them a strong pick for those avoiding gluten who miss Funyuns. I approached with a touch of skepticism given the lentils (I’m fond of lentils, actually). I wasn’t sure how a lentil-based crust would translate into a crispy onion-like snack. To my surprise, it works surprisingly well, and I now prefer these over traditional Funyuns.

Sticky Rice and Seaweed Crisps

This one leans a touch niche, but as a fan of Asian flavors and snacks, I was instantly drawn to them. Not everyone will look at seaweed and think delicious snack, but trust me—this is worth trying. They’re crunchy and pleasantly salty, with a hint of briny sea character that doesn’t taste like you’ve swallowed a mouthful of ocean. If you’re curious, grab a bag and judge for yourself. You might end up thanking me later.

Turkish Sesame Bread

Okay, bread might seem a touch beyond typical quick bites, yet a ring-shaped loaf like this can be an ideal snack companion. It isn’t a grab-and-go product; it comes frozen and requires some prep. Once cooked, it lends itself to several days of snacking, provided it sticks around. The interior crumb holds up surprisingly well for a frozen bread, and the sesame crust delivers a satisfying crisp. I picked it up mainly from curiosity and walked away pleasantly surprised.
