Sampling the Unreleased Monster Energy Vanilla Shots: First Look

Monster Energy doesn’t release a new version of its flagship drink every day. It certainly seems like we’re treated to a fresh Monster Ultra variant every few months (often substituting an older one as it arrives), but a new perspective on the original tends to appear only once a year, if we’re lucky. Last year we offered an early take on the now-out Strawberry Shot variants; this time, I’ve got several sample cans of Monster Energy Vanilla Shot in both the original and zero-sugar forms. Let’s dive into whether these barista-inspired twists on Monster Energy deserve a spot in your fridge.

Monster Energy Vanilla Shot Review

New Monster Energy Drink!

Pros: Similar to last year’s Strawberry Shot variants, this flavor is exactly as advertised. The vanilla note blends surprisingly well with Monster’s base profile, which hovers somewhere between “electric charge” and “jaw-clench.” If the classic Monster formula feels a touch harsh to you, this version should glide down with more ease.

Cons: The target audience remains a bit murky. If you crave a creamier Monster, you might want to try their upcoming Orange Dreamsicle variant when it arrives.

Monster Energy Zero Sugar Vanilla Shot Review
Monster Energy Zero Sugar Vanilla Shot

New Monster Energy Drink!

Pros: This version feels more effective than the Zero Sugar Strawberry Shot; the vanilla helps mask potential aftertastes while delivering a notably stronger vanilla presence. If a product is marketed as Vanilla Shot, the vanilla-forward option wins my vote. Honestly, I even prefer this to the full-sugar variant.

Cons: The drawback with any Zero Sugar take on the classic Monster Energy is that it sits directly alongside their Ultra line, many of which are among the finest sugar-free energy drinks on the market. Trying to replicate the full-sugar flavor without sugar is tougher than launching a new flavor that thrives around the artificial sweetener aftertaste.

When can I get my hands on Monster Energy Vanilla Shot?

I scored these early sample cans thanks to a contact in the industry, but you won’t have to wait long to try them firsthand. According to our sources, both the full-sugar and Zero Sugar editions of Monster Energy Vanilla Shot are expected to appear on store shelves during the first week of October (alongside the new Java Monster Dubai Chocolate—if you haven’t checked that review yet, now’s the time).
