September Publix Grocery Haul: What We Bought

September 2, 2026
Food

There are always a few items we eagerly shop for every month, and September follows that pattern. The month brings one of the richest, tastiest harvests of produce and a clear stride into the upcoming autumn festivities. Here are the Publix finds we’re most excited to explore this month.

Nutella Peanut Spread With Cocoa

Nutella has elevated the chocolate-and-hazelnut pairing to a level that invites study. They transformed a regional favorite into a global icon closely tied to the brand’s name. But what about a different set of nuts? Could Nutella pull off something equally impressive with almonds, pistachios, or other varieties? We’re eager to find out, which means we’ll be picking up the new Nutella Peanut Spread to test it for ourselves. This one feels particularly timely as we edge toward October, since it nods to the flavor profile that many associate with Reese’s.

Limited Edition Glazed Pumpkin Fritters

Autumn is often defined by apple fritters, but a pumpkin fritter is a pleasant novelty worth tasting. Pumpkin spice is everywhere right now, yet this flavor seems a natural fit for this pastry. Almost every Publix bakery item is a guaranteed win, and this particular offering has us genuinely excited. With fall’s official start approaching at month’s end, it feels right to embrace a bit of seasonal festivity and savor these fritters.

We’re truly curious whether this is the fritter we’ve been missing all along, or if we’ll continue favoring apples for the rest of the season. If that’s the case, we’ll still have the Glazed Apple Sour Cream Cake Donuts from Publix bakery on hand for a fallback treat.

Annas Original Ginger Thins

Annas Ginger Thins aren’t a strictly seasonal item since they’re available year-round, but as autumn begins and hints of the season emerge, we’ve found their delicate ginger note even more appealing. What’s great about these cookies is not only their wonderfully crisp, wafer-thin bite as a snack, but also their capacity to become a superb crust. Crushed with a little butter, a pinch of salt and sugar, and pressed into a pie pan, they yield one of the easiest (and consistently delicious) pie crusts. You could use it for nearly any upcoming filling, but I’m especially fond of imagining a creamy, custardy pumpkin pie filling baked in a crust made from these cookies.

Seasonal Pepperidge Farms Cookies

From Pepperidge Farms’ autumn lineup, we’ve been counting down the days to their arrival on shelves. And this month, the flavors we’ve anticipated will finally be within reach. We’ve always enjoyed the seasonal Milano cookies, but this year’s introduction of a festive Chessmen shortbread variation has us particularly intrigued. The Spiced Orange Cranberry Chessmen feels like the ideal non-pumpkin festive indulgence, and we’re ready to clear the racks as soon as they hit stores this month.

Figs

We eagerly await the annual return of figs to the grocery aisles, and when they’re in season, they’re irresistibly lush and naturally jammy. Figs are remarkably versatile: they shine in sweet pairings with honey and warm spices, and they also excel in savory preparations with salt, herbs, and a touch of vinegar. There’s no produce more seasonally aligned to welcome fall than figs, with their deep, mellow flavor that signals the season ahead.
