It’s Crumbl’s own declared cozy season, and we’re all in. Moving from pumpkin spice to Reese’s Pieces, the bakery is leaning into autumn flavors that symbolize comfort and memory. And, truthfully, one flavor that has captured our curiosity this week is Crumbl’s take on a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie, since achieving a harmonious blend of assertive chocolate with toasty pumpkin spices proves a challenge.

In the end, we decided to sample the treat firsthand and share what we learned about whether it merits a bite. Crumbl characterizes the cookie as a soft pumpkin-spice dough studded with semi-sweet chips, warmed to serve and brimming with cozy vibes. That’s the premise; here is our final assessment.

Our Official Sporked Evaluation

Pros — This cookie offered a chance to showcase a balanced, authentically tasting pumpkin-spice profile from the brand. Too often, substitutes in the form of extracts or artificial “flavors” take over, but this one seemed true to the real spices. You could even detect pumpkin notes in its taste. And if you worried about the pumpkin overpowering everything, rest easy—the cookie is generously studded with semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Cons — There comes a moment where we must admit that two comforting, tasty elements don’t automatically mesh. Honestly, chocolate and pumpkin spice don’t resonate for us here. In theory the pairing could work—both flavors are strong, earthy, and intricate—but in practice a pumpkin-spice chocolate chip cookie tends to shortchange one side, and the two rarely harmonize.

Beyond that, pumpkin-centered treats are typically expected to be tender and moist. This cookie, however, fell short of those traits. The outer shell felt rubbery and chewy in an off-putting way, and even the middle failed to deliver the gratifying mouthfeel we hoped for. In short, the texture read as odd on every level.
