This year has continued to brim with major launches and bold promises from Burger King, and there’s no sign the momentum will slow. From a refreshed Whopper to a limited drop of the crown-shaped nuggets and even a foray into the world of fashion just this week, BK has kept the releases coming.
Among the year’s releases, one of the most intriguing moves wasn’t a whole new item but a reinvention of a staple. Burger King updated its chicken nugget recipe, and the revamped nuggets have been on menus since September 1.
The bites use white-meat chicken filling and what the brand describes as an enhanced batter. After encountering mixed chatter online, we decided to sample the updated nuggets ourselves to determine whether devoted BK fans should embrace the revision or stick with their favorites. Here’s our take.

We’ll admit upfront that Burger King’s nuggets have never been our top pick. In a landscape full of fried chicken options, why reach for a burger joint’s nugget? And with Chick-fil-A nearby, there are plenty of compelling alternatives. Still, we remained open to this launch and were curious if it could win us over as nugget enthusiasts.
Reddit discussions frequently noted a stale or crumbly texture, but that wasn’t universally our experience. Our server did mention the order had just come out of the fryer, which can skew impressions. Like most fast-food, results can vary a lot by location and franchise.
To gauge how these nuggets fare after some time, we left them out for about 10 minutes following the initial bites. The crumb coat isn’t particularly well-suited to lasting crunch, and after a short rest it did taste a bit soggy and stale. It wasn’t exactly a slam, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker either.
The interior proved more favorable, being juicier and more tender than the chain’s previous nugget offering. While a crisp exterior remains desirable, the inside wasn’t dry in the slightest. It did feel a touch spongy, which hinted that these aren’t formed from solid, whole pieces of chicken.
As for seasoning, there was a dip in flavor compared with the prior version. The pepper and salt balance that had previously helped attract customers didn’t come through as strongly here, which is a notable setback since the nugget seasoning was a key appeal in the first place.
In the end, we finished an entire package, aided by the new Special Savory Sauce that came with them. This sauce adds a tangy blend that evokes a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, herbs, and spices, producing something reminiscent of Cane’s Sauce. We’d order these nuggets again, but if you’re specifically craving chicken nuggets, they might not be your first choice.
