Autumn brings a shift in temperatures and a quickened pace for many. For Lidl fans, those quirky baked goods and the ever-changing weekly culinary themes add flavor to the season, and the ingredient lineup is evolving as well. Beginning October 7, Lidl launches Greek Week, and here you’ll find a handful of new items, fall savings, and a touch of bakery fun to pop into your Lidl shopping list.

Eridanous Ready-to-Assemble Gyro Sandwich Kit — $7.99

Eridanous represents Lidl’s in-house line of Greek and Mediterranean foods, so the brand itself isn’t new unless a specific item is launched. What’s new here is a substantial price drop of close to five dollars. The sandwich kit yields enough to construct five complete gyros and should be used within seven days. Unlike the gyro pictured on the box, the kit does not include fresh items such as tomatoes, but it does come with sliced gyro meat, five pitas, and presumably enough tzatziki sauce for everyone.

Lidl Preferred Selection Frozen Maryland-Style Crab Cakes — $5.99

Greek Week isn’t the only celebration this week. It’s National Seafood Month as well. So in addition to discounted gyros, you’ll find a selection of seafood items that are priced to entice. The Maryland-style crab cakes from Lidl’s Preferred Selection line typically run eight dollars, but they’ve been marked down (and are likely to stay on sale for the entire month). While the package contains two cakes, they’re handmade with lump crab meat—an affordable appetizer choice for a steak night, a date night, or both.

Sweet Potato Bread Loaf — $3.99

There’s a modest saving here on a seasonal loaf that might sound unglamorous at first glance, but the star is the sweet potato flavor itself. And if you’re concerned about a bread that feels heavy, fear not. Lidl’s bakery reputation—widely recognized in Europe and here in the United States—suggests this bread will be tasty, well-made, and pleasantly light. It’s the kind of slice you’d want to toast on a chilly October morning.

Lidl Applewood Smoked Gouda Cheese — $4.05

Being European, Lidl tends to excel at bread and cheese, often with a level of competence that surpasses many American grocers. Applewood-smoked Gouda offers a subtle sweetness from the wood that balances Gouda’s characteristic creaminess. And at around four dollars, this dependable cheese is a bargain for the colder months. Pick it up.

Litehouse Caramel Dip — $3.99

We won’t pretend this is a sensible buy solely based on price, or even with the fact that apple season is in full swing—every household could use a tub of caramel dip. Truth be told, it simply looks too good to resist. Caramel cravings are a little more pronounced this time of year, and whether you use the dip for apples or as a dessert treat, it’s an easy, though sticky, addition to your grocery list.
