We Sampled Crumbl’s Frozen Hot Chocolate Cookie

With Halloween has passed, Crumbl is redirecting its attention to flavors that better suit the Thanksgiving season and the colder months ahead. Naturally, the chillier period brings to mind hot cocoa, a quintessential comfort treat. Yet Crumbl is drawing inspiration from its trendier, cooler counterpart for this lineup: frozen hot chocolate.

Our Official Assessment

Additionally, there is something noteworthy about how the mousse inspired by hot cocoa presents itself. Its creamy texture and cool, refreshing bite echo the very dessert that inspired this cookie, a quality we genuinely value.

Drawbacks — Regrettably, there is more to fault than to admire about this cookie. To begin with, as previously mentioned, it feels exceptionally heavy; “heavy” hardly captures its weight. It is dense and, in a way, dry compared with typical cookies or brownies, turning Crumbl’s usual underbaked hallmark into something perplexing and disappointing.

Furthermore, the balance between the cookie base and the mousse is off. The biscuit layer is so thick that it drowns the mousse, which is essentially the centerpiece of the flavor; this only underscored how lacking the cookie base was from the start.

Additionally, this is a small gripe—but one worth noting: cold marshmallows deliver an unpleasant texture. They cling to teeth and disrupt the eating experience, and the problem could have been avoided. Instead of having the marshmallows sitting in the fridge with the rest of the dough so it could be served as part of the cookie, they could be added as toppings when orders are placed. If not, what should have been a highlight of this seemingly straightforward treat ends up becoming a distinctly unpleasant addition.
