And what better moment to treat ourselves to an upgraded take on a beloved classic than during Crumbl’s birthday week. This week’s Crumbl lineup centers on the brand’s nine-year milestone, and their Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie embodies that celebration.

Pros — In the most appealing sense, the frosting swirls on this cookie evoke a richer, tastier take on a typical canned chocolate frosting from the grocery aisle. The sprinkles, both in texture and hue, reinforce a nostalgic familiarity, while adding a playful contrast in every bite.
Beyond the frosting’s flavor, the mouthfeel was equally outstanding. The cookie felt light and velvety, with tiny air pockets that kept it airy, yet it maintained the decadent creaminess and fudgy notes you expect from a chocolate frosting—almost skirting the line of a whipped ganache in texture.
Cons — Where the frosting and decoration shine, the underlying chocolate chip cookie detracted from the experience. The base was off—crunchy and dry from edge to center. The flavor failed to redeem it as well; it tasted like a grocery-store cookie infused with texture-preserving additives designed to keep it chewy. Even though Crumbl bakes cookies fresh each day, that off-note felt misplaced and disappointing.
The chocolate within the cookie was pleasant, yet the intensity of the frosting overpowered it. Pairing a deeply rich cookie with an even richer frosting felt overwhelming, to the point that finishing the entire cookie felt impractical. We entered with high expectations for this newly crafted chocolate chip recipe and, sadly, don’t anticipate reaching for it in the future for midnight snacking.
